Reported Social Media Threats

TorchStone Global uses the Social Media Threat Continuum model to monitor threats and, in many cases, end them online by reporting them to social media platforms for removal. TorchStone constantly monitors, reports and documents posts ranging from harassment to direct threats of violence. TorchStone uses automated tools to collect and filter millions of signals every year, but it requires human analysts to identify substantial threats and report them for violating social media platform policies.

Reporting and removing harmful content often stops the Threat Continuum from progressing past the doxing and harassment phase. However, it requires constant vigilance to stop a determined threat actor. In some cases, TorchStone has reported dozens of different social media accounts linked to the same person and the same threats. Online threat monitoring is a good example of how TorchStone’s Intel Team combines automated tools with continuous human oversight. See the chart below showing our success rate when it comes to reporting threatening online activity.
