The first two graphs only cover incidents that occurred over the past month and do not capture all of the data in the report. Incidents that occurred in previous months, but were only reported recently, are not reflected in the graphs for the past month. They are captured in the longer-term EP Targeting Trends and Venue of EP Incidents by Target.

  • A tech conglomerate CEO warned others of the risks associated with wearing luxury watches in public. The CEO told the media in November about a previous incident in October in which a gang of thieves on electric scooters assaulted him in central London and stole his Richard Mille watch. There is no indication that the CEO was targeted due to his position, but the assault nevertheless put him in physical danger, potentially jeopardizing his leadership of the company. Gangs are known to employ spotters who identify potential targets wearing high-value watches. The CEO was returning to his daughter’s home after attending a musical in central London: it’s likely that the gang spotted him leaving the theater and followed him to a less populated area to launch their attack.
  • Four celebrity homes were targeted last month while their residents were attending high-profile, previously scheduled public events. The LA-area homes of two television personalities were targeted while attending a previously publicized event, and two professional athletes were targeted while they were out—including the Cleveland-area home of Shedeur Sanders during his NFL debut game. Targeting celebrity and professional athlete homes while they are at publicly announced events (such as award ceremonies or games) is a well-established trend. Ensure that home security systems are properly activated and consider adding additional security assets during high-profile events when the residents are known to be out.
  • The threat against state lawmakers remained high in November. At least nine Indiana state lawmakers reported receiving threats towards the end of November, following the state legislature’s effort to redraw the state’s congressional map at the end of the month. Several other lawmakers came forward in December, indicating that they also received threats. Tactics ranged from direct threats to lawmakers and their families, swatting attacks on their private homes, and bomb threats to businesses associated with them. Indiana State Police have indicated that they are adjusting their security measures in response to the wave of threats. The threats follow multiple politically motivated assassinations and assassination attempts over the past year, not to mention dozens of incidents of threats and harassment targeting political figures.
