Malique L. Carr, PH.D.

Protective Intelligence Analyst

Dr. Carr (CA PSY25110) earned her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology at Palo Alto University, and she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a double major in Media Arts & Science with a concentration in Computer Science at Wellesley College. She completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Portland VA Medical Center with the Mental Illness Research and Education Clinical Center, a certificate program in Human Investigations through Oregon Health & Science University’s School of Medicine, and an American Psychological Association-accredited internship at Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles Medical Center. Dr. Carr’s clinical specialty is providing treatment for child and adult survivors of trauma.

Her work has spanned hospital, community mental health, and school settings. Dr. Carr’s research interests revolve around assessing and managing threats. She was first author on a well-received article about assessing and managing stalking behaviors in mental health settings in the first volume and issue of the Journal of Threat Assessment and Management. Dr. Carr was presented with an  award for distinguished service in 2009 by the American Psychological Association, Society for Clinical Psychology. Dr. Carr has also been a member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals since 2012.

Dr. Carr’s understanding of mental health issues in diverse populations, her specialized training in working with survivors of trauma, experience with managing crisis situations in clinical practice, and her research in assessing and managing threats afford a unique lens for the clients of TorchStone. Dr. Carr is able to analyze data from a different perspective and contribute to people-centric, comprehensive, strategic security solutions.

Peter Cunneen

Senior Executive Protection Specialist

Peter Cunneen, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, is an accomplished law enforcement and security professional with more than twenty years experience, including nine years assigned to the elite Emergency Service Unit. Mr. Cunneen is a state certified emergency medical technician, hazardous materials technician, and firearms instructor. Past assignments include explosives detection canine handler and anti-gang task force.

Mr. Cunneen started his law enforcement career assigned to the high profile Midtown South Precinct in Manhattan. Throughout his career, Mr. Cunneen has received advanced training and certifications in active shooter response, defensive driving, and dignitary protection. Mr. Cunneen joined TorchStone Global in 2013 and supports our high net worth, high profile clients on executive protection teams throughout the Northeast region. Mr. Cunneen is an avid Crossfit coach and former competitive boxer.

Christopher Davis

Chris Davis has been a Police Officer with the Suffolk County (NY) Police Department for more than twenty years. He spent the last twelve years assigned to the elite Emergency Service Unit, where his responsibilities include tactical assignments, high risk warrant service, and diplomatic protection. Mr. Davis is a New York state certified firearms instructor, hazardous materials technician, and emergency medical technician.

For the last twelve years, Mr. Davis has gained extensive experience in the field of executive protection, providing services in New York, Los Angeles and the Middle East. Since 2012, he has been working with TorchStone’s high profile and high net worth clients on short-term executive protection assignments. Mr. Davis is also certified in high risk defensive driving and has completed the Emergency Vehicle Operators Course.

mike georgoulis

Michael T. Georgoulis

Executive Protection Specialist

Mr. Georgoulis is a twenty-six-year police veteran and a Sergeant with the Danbury, Connecticut Police Department. A full-time instructor, Mr. Georgoulis supervises his agency’s firearms and tactical training program. He is a state-certified instructor in numerous disciplines, including firearms, active-shooter response tactics, and police use of force.

Mr. Georgoulis serves as the primary Use of Force Instructor at the Connecticut Police Academy, is one of the select few Senior Master TASER Instructors in the world, and has served as a guest instructor at federal law-enforcement tactical schools for over ten years. He has created FEMA compliant all-hazards plans for large public venues in Danbury and presents training programs in civilian response to active-shooter scenarios for commercial and corporate audiences throughout the Northeast.

A twelve-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserve, Mr. Georgoulis served on active duty for nearly two years following the September 11th attacks. He deployed to Kosovo in 2002 and Iraq in 2003, where he was a Scout-Sniper Team Leader. His personal awards include the Combat Action Ribbon and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

Mr. Georgoulis studied Justice and Law Administration at Western Connecticut State University. For the last several years, he has been working as a team member on short-term executive protection assignments for TorchStone’s high profile and high net worth clients.

Carol Marshall

Global Security Consultant

Carol Marshall is a global security consultant with more than twenty-five years of international experience in corporate, private, and public sector security. She delivers strategic solutions for clients in the areas of risk assessment and mitigation, threat avoidance, executive protection, facility security, and supply chain integrity.

Ms. Marshall has traveled extensively, executing security in diverse cultures and in high threat environments. Prior to joining TorchStone, she led the strategic development and deployment of security programs for SC Johnson in more than seventy countries. She lived in Singapore for several years while directing Microsoft’s Asia-Pacific Regional Security Program for 16 countries that included 40 subsidiaries. Before Microsoft, Ms. Marshall held several security management positions at Dell Computer. She was Global Logistics Security Manager, Asia-Pacific Regional Security Manager based in Malaysia and was also on the Dell Executive Security Detail that provided personal protection for the Dell family.

Before joining the private sector, Ms. Marshall was a Special Agent with the U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service. She served on the U.S. Secretary of State’s Security Detail, as well as at various overseas posts, including the Regional Security Office at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan; Kathmandu, Nepal; and Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Ms. Marshall has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska. She holds a board certification in Security Management and an International Security Management Association Leadership Certification from Georgetown University.

Matt O’Malley is an accomplished law enforcement and security professional with over 23 years experience. He currently holds the rank of Lieutenant and has served as a supervisor or Commanding Officer in several high profile commands including the Emergency Service Unit, Firearms Training Section, and the Community Relations Bureau. Mr. O’Malley is a state certified emergency medical technician, and firearms instructor.

Throughout his career, Mr. O’Malley has received advanced training and certifications in active shooter response, defensive driving, and dignitary protection. Mr. O’Malley served in the U.S. Army Reserve and deployed to combat operations in Afghanistan in 2011 as Team Leader of a Tactical Psychological Operations Team. Peter Quinn served for more than 20 years with the Suffolk County Police Department, including 10 years assigned to the Emergency Service Unit (ESU). Mr. Quinn is a certified emergency medical technician (EMT-D), hazardous materials technician, and firearms instructor. He was selected to instruct at the first statewide Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) school certifying all SWAT officers in New York. Prior to joining the Police Department, Mr. Quinn spent four years in the U.S. Marine Corps where his awards included the Combat Action Ribbon.

Mr. Quinn has an extensive background in event security and executive protection throughout the United States, including at least 12 years experience on protective assignments for high profile and high net worth individuals. Pete is an avid marathon runner and triathlete.

Mr. Raphael has been a licensed property adjuster and a licensed insurance agent who has successfully completed Antiterrorist Defensive Driver and Surveillance Detection training. Maja Roberts

Director of Administration

Maja Roberts has more than twenty years experience in the security industry managing administrative and business activities, as well as leading entire proposal departments. From 1996 until 2005, she worked for Vance International, ultimately being promoted to the Director of the Corporate Writing Department.

Over the course of her 9-year tenure, Ms. Roberts developed administration systems, quality control procedures, employee training, and sales processes for Vance. From 2005 until June of 2016 when she joined TorchStone Global, she continued these activities for security companies and contractors to include OMNIPLEX World Services, Homeland Security Solutions, and several technology firms.

Over her career, Ms. Roberts has created five proposal departments and served as the subject matter expert on uniformed security operations on proposals/contracts valued at more than $100 million. She has an extensive background managing the full business development life cycle, including identifying opportunities and creating pipelines, fostering teaming relationships, creating customer relationship management systems, and leading all aspects of proposal development and submission. She has successfully managed pipelines in the billions of dollars with impressively high win rates.

Ms. Roberts graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from George Mason University, and holds a Top Secret Clearance with the United States Government.

Lance Root has more than twenty-five years of international security and law enforcement experience. He has an extensive record of security program design, development, implementation, and oversight. Mr. Root is a proactive, results-oriented, performance-driven leader who has successfully led hundreds of personnel, managed multi-million dollar budgets, and implemented integrated security programs spanning government, military, civilian and corporate personnel, facilities, and interests.

As a Supervisory Special Agent in the Diplomatic Security Service of the U.S. Department of State, Mr. Root protected American diplomats and facilities around the world. Most recently, he completed a tour of duty as the senior Regional Security Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, Spain, where he supervised a staff of 89 special agents, investigators, U.S. Marines, and contract guards. He previously served at U.S. diplomatic posts in Kabul, Mexico City, Guatemala City, Sarajevo, Tel Aviv, and at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. From 2004 to 2007, Mr. Root served as the Regional Security Officer and Pan American Games Security Coordinator at the American Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Mr. Root is trilingual in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science & Economics from Pepperdine University, Malibu, California.

Ira Shinske

Ira Shinske

Ira Shinske is a dynamic security professional, with 27 years of extensive experience and achievements in federal law enforcement, with an emphasis on executive protection, crisis management, physical security, major event planning, and international programs. Mr. Shinske started his federal law enforcement career in1987 when he joined the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service (DS) as a Special Agent.

During his 15 years at DS, Mr. Shinske traveled and worked in more than seventy countries. He served as the Regional Security Officer in Caracas, Venezuela from 1994 to 1996. From 1996 to 2000, Mr. Shinske was a detail leader for the protection of the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, serving Madeleine Albright, Bill Richardson and Richard Holbrooke during their tenure. In 2001, he served as the U.S. Department of State agency coordinator for the United Nations General Assembly and the World Economic Forum in New York City.

In 2002, Mr. Shinske joined the United States Federal Air Marshal Service as a supervisor. During his 12 years with the Federal Air Marshal Service he was responsible for the training and hiring of agents as well as serving as agency liaison with airlines, airport management, and police. Mr. Shinske continues to hold a Top Secret clearance with the U.S. Government.

Sam Ward is a strategic leader with demonstrated skills in team building, managing large numbers of employees, collaboration, and running complex security programs in high impact, global organizations. He has ten years experience developing and implementing strategies to protect people, physical facilities, and information in foreign and domestic locations.

As a Special Agent in the Diplomatic Security Service of the U.S. Department of State, Sam served in the New York Field Office, the DS Command Center in Washington, and at the Regional Security Office, U.S. Embassy Berlin. Sam is proficient in emergency and event management, investigations, risk assessments, security technology, operations, and budgeting.

He has a Master of Arts from the United States Naval War College and a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University.

William Whiteside

Bill Whiteside has twenty-six years of public and private sector experience in the security industry. He has served with the U.S. Justice and Treasury Departments as both a Deputy U.S. Marshal and as a Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service. He served in various capacities and specialties to include fugitive apprehension, protection of Federal Judges and U.S. Attorneys, high threat trials, and the Witness Protection Program. He has protected U.S. Presidents, Vice Presidents, the Secretary of the Treasury, and Foreign Heads of State. Mr. Whiteside has a wide-ranging criminal investigative background in financial crimes, bank fraud, telecommunications fraud, asset forfeiture, intelligence gathering, threat assessments, surveillance, and counter-surveillance.

After his government service, Mr. Whiteside managed AT&T’s Global Executive Protection program, and then became Director of Global Executive Protection for Citigroup, where he had the responsibility for the safety of their CEOs, Presidents, CFOs, Board of Directors, and other senior executives and their families, both domestically and internationally. Using his expertise in risk assessment, threat administration, and executive protection and advance work, Mr. Whiteside has advised U.S. officials, senior government staff, security teams from foreign governments and private firms, and Chairman and CEO-level executives. He has extensive experience in tactical planning and budgeting for large-scale security assignments and investigations, and has managed additional responsibility for aircraft, ship, ground transportation, residential security, as well as event security.

With a high level network of domestic and international security and business resources, Mr. Whiteside serves as an advisor to high net worth individuals and families, to include industry leaders and celebrities. He manages comprehensive security assessments, due-diligence, surveillance, counter-surveillance, investigations, and risk mitigation programs. Timothy J. Wilson

Tim Wilson is a decorated veteran of the New York City Police Department, where he achieved the rank of 1st Grade Detective. He served the majority of his police career in the Executive Security Section and Dignitary Protection Unit of the elite Intelligence Division. Mr. Wilson coordinated protective security for Mayor Koch, Mayor Dinkins, and Mayor Giuliani, as well as for numerous visiting dignitaries, politicians, and celebrities.

After his public service, Mr. Wilson was appointed the Deputy Director of Security for Giuliani Security and Safety, where he continued to provide protective security as a team leader and confidential aide to former Mayor Giuliani. He helped coordinate security and logistics for Giuliani’s daily schedule and for numerous domestic and international trips, including the Mayor’s official trip to the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy as a U. S. Presidential Delegate.

Mr. Wilson went on to form and lead the executive protection team at a privately held financial firm, where he coordinated security operations for one of the wealthiest families in the United States. His knowledge of high-level protective security is unparalleled.
